Simple physics realization:
The force of water falling from a steep roof run-off is equal to the decimation potential of several flats of tender, just-sprouted seedlings positioned directly underneath.
This has been established through scientific process by a beginning gardener whose IQ must have temporarily plummeted to double digits, and who will now have to wait several more weeks (again!) for a decent salad harvest. (Sigh)
Please do not leave any infant plants in her care without adult supervision...

Well, now you know for next time. Thankfully it was just greens and not some obnoxiously hard to germinate seedling like eggplants or something.
Yes, I'm keeping my sense of humor. Better to learn the OBVIOUS early on, ha!
Ah, now you've cleared up another mystery for me...why the eggplant seeds I sowed a few weeks back never have come up yet...

Sorry about your lettuce though---can't say I have never done things like that myself. I have many of my own fore head smacking moments!
Oh yeah. I flattened my seedlings with a hose earlier this year but they survived, mostly. You learn as you screw up. It's the system, unfortunately!
