Inappropriate Laughter

!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just more proof that I'll never, EVER qualify as being normal...

(Male readers, for your own comfort, just exit this post now)

Jack's still with his mom. She's lingering, but not for long, and of course it's a most serious time. We've already placed a few phone calls, and will make some more as the day progresses. I really needed to be with him right now. Let's see if I can get there.

I've been sleeping in pull-out beds and easy chairs in hospice. This hospice has comfortable facilities. The other one didn't. I've had a sore back ever since sleeping at the first one on a very hard surface.

I finally got to sleep in my own bed last night...bliss! And this morning, two things happened:

1. My lower back "went out"...or in the words of Emeril, "BAM!!" That's when I started laughing...

2. "Aunt Flo came to visit"... I have irregular "visits" and on months when I do have my periods, they're a doozy. I am now laughing harder. Can I EVEN make it to the bathroom???

We have a rolling office chair, and that's what I'm sitting in now. Only I can't get OUT of it, and I had to creep like a turtle through the house (laughing, I might add) to get to it. Now seated, I have to Fred Flintstone my way through the house barefoot (can't get my shoes on! lol) in the rolling office chair to get around.

Well, at least I already had a shower!

This has happened a couple times before in the past, and there's just nothing I can do about it besides taking anti-inflammatories and waiting it out in bed, (in between bathroom trips) and then do some slow walking to keep my back stretched out and limber. I can't stand all the way up just now...or bend...or much else. Oh glory... (and now I'm laughing some more!)

I must say my back has wacko timing this time.

The irony is not lost on me...I'm imagining people dropping by during this serious time (which could be happening, oh ANY minute now) and finding me creeping through the house inch by inch with my face gnarled up with concentration saying "oooo, oooo, oooo" with each step (in the rolling chair, of course!) wrapped in a loud-colored beach towel and not much else, trying to get back to my room.

Oh yeah...it's the chubby homesteader reality show...

Gosh, better start creeping now. The bathroom's on the other side of the house.

.....(laughing!!!) ;-)

Okay, I've had back problems for thirty years. I stretch twice per day, every day, on the floor on a rug or mat. Like yoga. If you can ever get to the floor, you will be able to ease your way out of this, trust me. Unless you have injured yourself beyond what this will ease. At 51 I am much more limber than many 30 years olds. Doctors say I have an amazing range of motion; and I have 3 herniated disks. The trick is to STAY limbered up all the time to reduce injury. Roll up a towel when you get to the floor. Lie on top of it and roll slowly over the sore spots. You will have to stretch all your muscles carefully first. I know all the ones to do, as I was taught by a doctor 12 years ago. Email if you want more info.
Good luck. I was on a cane at 30. I know what I'm talking about. You have to be mindful of things you do so as not to aggravate and injure yourself. And learn how to alter your habits so you don't get injured.

I am glad you are able to have a good laugh, even if it is at your own expense ;)

You have painted quite the flatting image of yourself scooting around the house! I hope your back gets itself under control, and I really hope Flo is merciful!

Your back may have PERFECT timing. Sometimes our bodies do things to get our attention. They are quite funny that way. We never know if we're supposed to turn inward and focus on ourself, take time to slow down, spend more time with focused relaxation, or what. But we always know when our bodies are telling us something.

And I do so love the "Fred Flintstone" image!!! :)

Some days it is laugh or cry.... I think you chose wise! I am so sorry that "Aunt Flo" came at this time. Take care of yourself....
Give Jack a hug for me!

I awarded you the "Great Buddy Award".... I know you are very tied up at this time.... when you get a chance stop by.... take your time. I had to choose you because you always have kind and uplifting comments. And you are very grounded in life. I admire and respect you! Christina

I can so relate to your story! My back does the same thing every other year or so and no matter what--stretching, standing, sitting, laying down--nothing will make it better but drugs! And after not having my visitor for at least four months or more and being quite pleased about it, there it is. Only lucky for me the two haven't occurred at the same time.

Poor, poor you. I was bent double for 5 months last time & crawled everywhere in the house. Outside, I had a baby, so supported myself on her pram. I'm paranoid about my back going out again as there is only me here (& Annon when she's not at school or out). Last time s was vaguely around & we had no animals & I lived on the edge of a village, not 1/2 way up a mountain! AND your period, too, just to make things harder. I'm glad you don't seem to suffer those as I do.

Hope you can sort it ASAP ~ maybe someone is telling YOU to take things easy in the midst of all that's happening because you'll be on call later & will need all your strength then...

You are such a joyful, fun loving spirit to find humor in even the worst situation. Yow!

Thirteen years ago, I had to go through surgery to replace two herniated discs in my neck, due to a lifting injury at work.
Ever since then my neck has limited range of motion.
And my back is stiff alot because of that.
Oh an I have hip dyplasia, too...to add insult to injury.

All those things affect the core of my body and when the core is affected, everything is.
It's challenging, but what other have said is right, stretching several times a day is often better than strenuous exercise, especially in the beginning.

As I've gotten older (and today's my 42nd birthday) it seems to be more of a struggle and I wish I could laugh as joyfully as you do. I want my body to be like it as when I was younger and more supple and flexible. Maybe if you were around, I'd be laughing so hard I'd get my mind of all the aches and pains.
It sure would be worth the try! :)

Feel better my blog friend.

I concur with Brenda - stretching really does do wonders. And laughter, too, but it sounds like you have that one covered ;).

Rest and take care of your back :).

O, Robbyn, I hope things get back to "normal" (whatever that is, right?)

Thoughts to you on all that you are going through...

(but I have to say I ROTFL over the way you wrote about all this!)
