Children of the Epoch: Excerpt

We are children of the epoch. The epoch is political... Whether you want it or not...
What you say resounds, what you don't say is also politically significant... Wislawa Szymborska

from Against Forgetting: 20th Century Poetry of Witness

They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security -- Benjamin Franklin

To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves.

Mohandas K. Ghandi

Returning, Learning, and Being Capable

We're trying to educate ourselves away from helpless dependence by taking our first steps, and by drawing from the wealth of resources and experience we've found among others who are choosing to live deliberately. Rediscovering time-honored practices of land management, gardening, animal husbandry, and health practices are some of our priorities. If we cannot master all that we try, we can at least find many areas in which we're capable...and this is a return. In so many ways, both spiritually and in our lifestyles, we are returning to the fundamentals, and thanking God for the lessons and contentment of the journey. There are adventures, each new day!
